Pads

The easiest disposable solution available, but there are limits and drawbacks.

Pads were one of the first period solutions created, and they have come a long way over the years. There are now countless varieties of sizes, styles, and absorbency levels to help menstruators comfortably handle their periods.

Because pads stay completely outside of your body, they might be the easiest solution in the box and they are often one of the first solutions new menstruators try as they first start their periods. Check out the pros and cons at the bottom of this page to see why you might want to consider other options as well.

To use a pad, open the outer packaging and pull it away from the pad, exposing the sticky underside of the pad. Place the sticky side onto your underwear, so the pad will be under your vagina when you pull up the underwear. If your pad has wings (like the pads in this box) pull back the covering from the wings and wrap the wings around the underside of your underwear. Used pads need to go into the trash can, not flushed down the toilet.

Pros:

  • Great for light to heavy days
  • Easy to use!
  • Many different options in brands
  • Great to sleep bc there’s no time limit
Cons:
  • Depending on flow, you may need to change them often
  • Expensive (it adds up)
  • Can have a bit of a smell from the blood oxidizing
  • Cannot swim with one
  • Messy (garbage and clean up)
  • Loud to unpackage
